Fishin For Addition!
Interactive bulletin boards! How cool is that? Started with an idea off Pinterest, then tweaked it to make it work! Love this! Great for a first grade or even second grade class!
Glacier Fun!
Hello! My name is Kate, and I'm a future teacher! Although I am not a teacher yet, I am considered a 3rd grade teachers aide. I go to a work college, which means I am required to have a job. I am lucky enough to be able to work so many hours a week in a Primary School. I work with 120 kids a week and see so many things. I want to use this blog to gather the ideas I have collected and remember the activities that I help conduct at the Primary school. I want to be able to collaborate with teachers everywhere. Here is something that I thought was totally awesome!
In the third grade, we are learning about landforms. One landform that is kind of hard for a student to grasp is a glacier. So what did we do? We created one! Freeze a block of ice in a pan and get a muddy board. We used a Frisbee to catch the water at the bottom. Prop the board up on a chair and set the ice at the top. As the ice slowly melts, it will move down the board and push the mud with it, just like a glacier! The Frisbee at the bottom represents a lake or river that glaciers melt into. The kids absolutely loved it! They made predictions about how long it would take to melt all the way to the bottom. As they went out into the hallway, they checked to see
if it had moved at all. It was a big hit, and those kids will never forget what a glacier is! The teacher who created this is a genius!
